How to Become a Teacher in Nevada

In order to get a teaching license in Nevada, you need to meet all the requirements of the state. First of all, you need to have a bachelor’s degree from a state-approved college or university. You also need to take the Praxis Core Academic Skills for Educators, Principles of Learning and Teaching. And the content-area exam for your specific subject.

You can get either a standard or an alternative teacher license in Nevada. If you meet all the requirements you must get the standard one, but if you didn’t take the training program you must apply for the alternative one.

Finding Approved Teacher Education Programs in Nevada

Obviously, the most important part of the licensure process is to complete a bachelor’s degree and a teacher training program at a board-accredited school. But also it is very important to make sure that your program is accredited by the regional accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education.

You also need to check that the institution is approved if you are planning to take an online or out-of-state teacher training program.

Nevada Teacher Education Requirements

First of all, to be eligible to apply for the teacher license you must be citizens or have lawful permission for residency in the US. Additionally, you must provide a fingerprint or background check by the FBI and the Central Repository for Nevada Records of Criminal History.

You must fill two forms, first, FD-258 Form fingerprint cards and a Nevada fingerprint authorization form with the completed teacher application. The residents also need to provide fingerprinting via LiveScan.
