• debit or credit cards (these are acceptable only when present an original or certified copy of the birth certificate)
• ID card which is issued by check-cashing companies,
• ID card or document which mentions “Not Valid for Identification Purposes”,
• documents that are homemade or do not seem like an official form of identification.

Keep in mind that the clerk’s office will prepare your marriage license and certificate with your legal name as it appears on the identification. It is your responsibility to present accurate and legal documents. So, if you want to reflect, for example, your full middle name on the marriage license, make sure that the ID you show also contains that name.

Sometimes, the Marriage Bureau Clerk determines that the applicant distinctly appears older than 25 years. In this case, they do not require any documents to prove his or her age. However, the Clerk still requires proof of identity (name).

If the applicant has a foreign birth certificate, the County Clerk may require translating it into English. The translation must be accurate and contain only correct information. Definitely, the translator must be qualified. The translation must include the printed name of the translator, as well. The translation of the birth certificate must be signed and notarized.
